A Letter to NUIST Foreign Teachers

Dear teachers,

Due to the outbreak of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), Jiangsu Province has activated level I public health emergency response since 24th January. Under this special circumstance, we would like to ask you to:

1. Strengthen prevention and self-protection. Keep good hygiene by washing hands often with soap or alcohol-based sanitizer. Cover cough or sneeze with a tissue or with flexed elbow. No spitting. Dump used masks according to regulations. Keep proper ventilation and rooms clean. Avoid close contact with any wild animals or birds. Eggs and meat must be thoroughly cooked before consumption.

2. Minimize outdoor activities. Avoid crowded places, parties and group activities. Correctly wear a mask (best surgical mask) if you have to go out. If you have mild to severe respiratory symptoms of fever, cough, breathing difficulty or fatigue, please go to a designated hospital with a mask on.

3. Join in mass prevention and control efforts. If you have visited the infected area (back to Nanjing after 8th January), or contacted with people who are from the epidemic area, please closely observe your health condition, stay at home and timely report to local Disease Control authorities or designated departments. Please cooperate with government or community personnel or medical staff if they inquire about your condition.

We would like to reemphasize that:

You are strongly recommended to STAY at home, which is the best way to protect you and your family;

For those who live on campus, you are encouraged to cook at home instead of eating in the canteen;

For those who are in Nanjing, if you DO need to leave Nanjing or China, please contact your host school and our office in advance;

For those who are in other cities in China or abroad now, please stay in contact with your host school and our office and inform us in a timely manner of your plans to return for the coming semester.

You can keep in touch with us through email(nuist_recruit@163.com) or the wechat group of “NUIST Foreign Teachers” or mobile phones (Jasmine 15852909231; Chelsea 13851799036; Jessica 18951992122). Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We firmly believe that with your support, we will defeat the novel coronavirus soon.
